The Gospel of Matthew, while anonymous, it was widely recognized in the early church as being written by Matthew, Matthew was also known as Levi, a tax collector who became a disciple of Jesus.
Matthew’s Gospel is a foundational text in Christian theology, being a comprehensive account of the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It begins with Jesus’ genealogy beginning with Abraham and continuing through David.
Matthew presents Jesus as the fulfillment of Jewish prophecy and law, portraying him as the long-awaited Messiah. He emphasizes Jesus' teachings regarding love, compassion, and righteousness, as well as his authority over nature, spirits, and even death.
Matthew's Gospel is structured around five major discourses from Jesus and focuses on the Kingdom of Heaven.
